Blank page separation setting

The blank page separation setting under the Capture tab on the Job Setup dialog box allows you to set up the software to recognize blank sheets as separators between batches or documents on your scanner.

The size (in bytes) of both the front and rear images of a page must fall below the byte threshold in order for the software to recognize the page as blank. If the software does not recognize a blank page, it will ignore it as a separator.  

Blank Page Image Separator when - activates the blank page separation feature.

Image Size (byte) is below - creates blank page separations based on the size (in bytes) of the blank page image.  For more information, click hereClosedSpecify a blank image size for each image type (black and white, color, and grayscale) that you will be scanning. 3000 bytes is suggested by default for black and white images.

The image size is checked against the raw, or pure, image coming from the scanner before operations are performed.

  • Black and White: enter the maximum image size in bytes for black and white.

  • Color/Grayscale: enter the maximum image size in bytes for color or grayscale. For more information, click hereClosedThe maximum image size that can be specified is 1,000,000 bytes (1 MB) to allow for blank page separation when color scanning. .

Image Content (%) is below* - creates blank page separations based onthe percentage of image content in the blank page image.

  • Black and White: enter thepercentage limit for black and white images.

  • Color/Grayscale: enter the percentage limit for color and grayscale images.

Test - opens the Test Image dialog box, which allows you to scan and test a blank page against the Image Content (%) settings.  Use this feature to verify that the software considers the page to be blank.

Under What to do if a page is blank - click one of the four options to indicate the next step after the software recognizes a blank page separation.  To view the four options, click hereClosedCreate a new batch - creates a new batch with a blank page. The blank page will automatically be deleted; the next scanned page becomes the first page of the first document of the batch.

Create a new document
- creates a new document with a blank page.

Next page stays in current document
- deletes the blank page. The next page scanned becomes the first page of the document.

Delete page
- deletes the blank page and attaches the next page to the document.  When the Delete page option is disabled, both the blank page and next page are attached to the document.

OK - closes the dialog box. All your settings are saved.
